Song of Kai (The Nightfall Chronicles, #2.5)Song of Kai by Karpov Kinrade

This series does NOT disappoint! It makes me hope the next book is close on the horizon!

Another "bridge" novella, this story is a fairly quick read. So far the Nightfall Chronicle have told the story from Scarlett's point of view - with a minor detour to see Zorin's side of things. Now we get to see an important part of the overall story from Corrine's point of view.

Kai is gone. Corrine is trying to find her place in the world as a nephilim while hiding this from her twin brother, Wytt. The family funeral for Kai has all ready taken place at Castle Vianney, but the family has now flown to London for the official funeral to take place. En-route King Varian lays Corrine's second official responsibility as future queen on her shoulders - an arranged marriage to save face for state reasons. Her first? Well, I'll leave that for you to read about...

With the help of Scarlett, Corrine must find and nullify the newest threat to the crown in order to stop a marriage she has no desire for. And, in the process of routing the traitor she may have found her future king...

Being a "bridge" novella it is much shorter than the full-length books. But, this novella allows you to view many of the actions from House of Ravens via Zorin's eyes instead of Scarlett's. In doing so it gives you more background on his feelings and reasons for his actions which sometimes seem to contradict the end goal of The Dark Templars. You will also learn what exactly happened before and after one of the primary action scenes at the beginning of House of Ravens.

I would have finished this much sooner - if life hadn't interfered! ;) The authors have met expectations again with this novella, and I can't wait to read Song of Kai! My only complaint - if there is one - was how short it was.

First of all - WOW! Second - grab a box of tissues before you start reading because unless you have no empathy, you'll need them before you're done!

In book 2 of the series, Scarlett and her friends are continuing to navigate their new lives at Castle Vianney - classes, training, friendships, relationships - and in Scarlett's case - leading a rebellion at The Cathedral. Jax gets secret orders that have him disappearing. Kai becomes Scarlett's greatest ally. Wytt keeps everyone entertained, and spends a lot of time with Lana. Corinne loses a young friend, and finds her strength.

Nightfall is being hunted by King Varian... who is Corinne, Wytt, & Kai's father, AND has decided to stay at Castle V as one of the Masters for the semester. The Sons of Eden - led by Adam, and the Red Eagles - led by Crixius - both create more issues for Nightfall through terrorist actions that she must try to circumvent while continuing to show her support for Zeniths.

Because of the beginning of the book I knew there was going to be a hard choice in the plot line, but I didn't see the choice itself being what it was. And, it's a tear-jerker.

The story is well-written with TONS of detail, highly-developed characters, and plot twists you won't see coming. I love the visual feel of the language in this series. You'll fall in love with the characters, and never want to leave their world!
